Homeschool Memoirs – Agendas
This week our assignment is to share what you're doing this year for our homeschool agenda. Share the different curriculum we're using and include what age/grade, how long we've been using it, and why we like it. And a Bible verse that has been encouraging or inspiring during this planning-process.
This is our second year homeschooling. My daughter Emira is in 3rd grade this year. Last year (our first year HSing) we found that she has some dyslexia. She reads ok and comprehends well but her problem lies in getting it on paper. Spelling has been very rough for her. Thanks to some really wonderful friends in our C0-Op we have a better approach this year!
Here is our schedule that I finished up last month. Now recently I have made some changes (in red) to it as we are still getting the right fit for this year.
Bible (daily):
Max Lucado's ICV Bible (Hermie and Friends)
FaithGirlz Devotionals (several books from Zondervan)
God and Me Devotions (this one has a small craft or drawing added, so that really gets her attention)
Writing/Copy work (daily):
Bible verse copy work
Cursive Handwriting without Tears
Math (daily):
Saxon Math 3
Language Arts (daily):
Reading 30 mins (Short stories and library books)
Read & Think Skill Sheets 3
A beka Spelling 3 & Sequential Spelling (great for dyslexia)
A beka Language 3
History/Geography (3+days):
A beka American History and Map Skills
Science:Lifepac Science
(This curriculum isn't working for us - nothing visual so she wasn't interested)
A beka Exploring God's World (adding as soon as we get our books)
Health:
A beka Health 3
Music/Art: (Sonlight)
The Children's Book of Art
Story of the Orchestra
Supplemental Unit Studies:
TBA - Emira's Choice
CO-OP (1st Semester):
Bible Skits
Crafts
The Night Sky
CO-OP (2nd Semester):
TBA
*Science, Health, Music/Art, and Unit Studies will be done consecutively. Once we are finished with Science, we will begin Health, etc.
Obviously we LOVE A beka! We used it last year as well. We really like the pictures and colorful workbooks/books, it really helps Emira stay focused. She is a visual learner and she prefers books with lots of pictures, photos, colors, etc.
We started a couple weeks into July and so far everything (except the Lifepac Science) is working for us. This year has been better by far already and we haven't had as many issues with discipline.
As for scheduling, there really is no point in scheduling ahead what we will do each day. I am 6mos pregnant and I also have a 2 yr old so life comes quick and unexpected things happen each day. So we do our next lesson the next day and then I just write down what we did for the day. If I know a quiz or test is coming up, I try to make it work out for us but if not, we make do. We are very relaxed and we like it that way! Works for us!
We are planning to take the week of Thanksgiving through New Year's Day off since the baby will be here then. However I am not against getting out the books if I feel it's a good day for us all to do it
As for a verse, I think that Proverbs 22:6 always sums it up for us!
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
There is so much hope in that verse!

So sick!

Saturday night my family and friends had a bonfire grill out and we had a great time! Until about 3am when I woke up and noticed my sinuses were draining. Yuck! Morning sickness was worse than ever! I am very prone to sinusitis and I had it good this time! Sinus pain and draining, along with a really bad sore throat that is probably strep. If it's not better tomorrow I will see the dr. After being in bed aching all day Sunday and then most all day Monday, I finally got some otc meds that have helped a lot. Being pregnant I can only take Tylenol and we were out, so I had to wait til someone could get to the store to get some for me.) Today was better although my throat is still very sore and it's hard to swallow and eat anything.
We did attempt school today but didn't finish before I had to nap. Thankfully daddy came home early so I could escape care for the kids. Now I am ready to curl up in my bed with a new book and rest up for tomorrow. Now which book shall I begin reading tonight?

Thursday Thirteen
13 things I want to make:
(click the photos for more info)

Thankfully I have the pattern so I can make this!

Aren't these adorable! I am purchasing this pattern too! Both my girls will have these for fall and winter

Too Cute! I am thinking of making it longer for fall.

I have made some similar bags before, but I want a large bag for diapers!

A great way to recycle those old t-shirts!

I have already started one of these, just need to put it all together!

Yes I am already thinking of Christmas crafts!

These will make great gifts, I have already ordered my mini calendars!

This pattern looks easy enough!
A bit complicated for a beginner like myself, but maybe someday I will try it!
