Good day for good deals!

Today we headed to Beckley to pick up some school books that were offered on freecycle! (Thanks Tracey!)

Then we headed over to Chik-fil-A to eat.
Photobucket
Monday evening from 5-8, kids eat free with adult. So both the girls got kids meals free, they had a craft table set up and Emira enjoyed making some crafts, and Mr. Funnybones the clown was there and he made the girls some ballon animals! Not bad for 11 bucks and we have now collected all 4 of the foreign language learning CDs!

Then I went to CVS to take advantage of the last day for June's ECB deals as well as some of the new deals for this week.

Shane is now on vacation, today was his last day of work. We are going to clean up the house tomorrow and get some things together. Storytime at the local library signups are tomorrow so we will go there and the girls can watch a movie. Then wed is payday and we are going to his dad's house to stay for a couple of days so the kids can use the pool and see family. Not sure what we are doing for the 4th but I'm sure we will cook out somewhere and then go to Beckley to watch the fireworks display.

Reading List

Most of you know I am a huge Amish/Christian Fiction addict! And I was talking with hubby the other day about how I can't remember what I have read and what I haven't anymore lol - so I am going to post my reading list here and check them off as I get them read.

Once I've read any of these books, I immediately post it on PaperBackSwap - and it's always immediately requested. So the turnover is great and I get new books quite often.

Trying New Recipes This Week!

Monday: Impossibly Easy Southwestern Pie

This was absolutely YUMMY! Even hubby loved this one and he is a huge meat eater! With the beans and so much cheese, you don't even miss the meat!

Tuesday: Tiny Spicy Chicken, Egg Drop Soup and Chicken Rice

We have actually tried this one once before and it was awesome! It is always Emira's fave recipe to pull out of the box!

Wednesday: Barbecue Pork Chops and Corn on the Cobb

We really liked this one, but next time I will double the recipe for shaking and also I will bake instead of frying because the flakes wanted to pull off when I turned it.

Thursday: Hubby's Special Burgers and Hot Dogs on the Grill
(Hubby made up this recipe himself for the burgers!)
We had enough for 10 med size burgers.
Here is what he added to his ground beef mixture:
2 Tbs A-1 Steak Sauce
2 Tbs Spicy Honey BBQ Sauce
1 Tbs Ketchup
Dash of Grill Mates Hamburger seasoning
Dash of salt and pepper
Dash of Italian seasoning
Dash of Season salt
1/2 c bread crumbs

I was a bit apprehensive about tasting this since it seemed like he was just throwing a bit of everything into his mixture. But surprisingly I loved it! Great job hunny!

More Summer Fun Ideas for the Kids

Fruity Play Dough

1 cup flour
1 package Kool-AidKool-Aid (any flavor)

1 tablespoon cream of tartar

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup salt
3/4 cup boiling water (the original recipe called for one cup of boiling water, but I found it made the dough too loose- aim for 3/4 cup and add more if needed)

Mix all dry ingredients in bowl then oil, then pour boiling water in and mix thoroughly. Wrap in cellophane or air tight container and store in fridge. The play dough should last a few months.

Frozen Grape Pops
Supplies for Frozen Grape Pops:

* Grapes - any color or size, washed
* Lollipop sticks - preferably 8 inches long, but any size will do. You can buy these at Walmart, or any cake/candy supply place. (We tried these with popsicle sticks and they are too wide for the small grapes.)

First, wash your grapes and dry them as best you can with a paper towel. Then pick about 6 grapes per 8 inch stick. Using the hole side of the grape, push your grape onto the stick. Go down about 1-2 inches from the bottom. Now pile the rest on.

Place your grape sticks in a freezer safe plastic bag. It’s best to wait over night for really good frozen grapes, but we could only wait till the afternoon. Even then, they were cold, mostly frozen, and delicious.

Check out THIS LINK for more great frozen fruit recipes!

Slushies
* 2 cups ice water
* 1 packet fruit-flavored drink mix (use your favorite flavor)
* 2/3 cup sugar
* 4 cups or 1 full tray of ice cubes

You need a blender to prepare this recipe. Put all of the ingredients into your blender. It will be about 2/3 to 3/4's full. Put the lid on. Process the mixture on high for a full minute. Stop the blender, use a spoon to stir it a bit. Look for unchopped ice chunks. If all the chunks are grated up, then go ahead and serve it. You may need to process it for another full minute though. Serve immediately. I usually have to spoon this out of the blender with a measuring cup because the mixture is so thick. Makes 4 - 8oz servings.

Photo Update

I wanted to share some recent photos from this month. Oh how I wish they were completed layouts, but alas that is not happening lol. So photos will have to do.

On June 7, Emira was the flower girl in my cousin Sami's wedding. She looked absolutely gorgeous!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Surprisingly Ainsley was well behaved throughout the ceremony and she was given a flower from one of the brides maid's bouquets.
Photobucket

We took some photos outside with Emira. (The wind was blowing and my hair is all funky but Emira looks cute!)
Photobucket

And here is my sister with Emira.
Photobucket

Lately Ainsley has been really obsessed with my cell phone! She always has it and she loves to call ppl - sometimes China LOL. I am getting a new phone soon and this one will be hers forever!
Photobucket

She is also really adoring books! She has a few of her own and she will look through them, but she really enjoys sissy or daddy reading to her. I got this great shot of Daddy reading to her one afternoon. (And yes I know the plant in the background is almost dead - caused by our lack of A/C I think, it was very hot and dry. But it is once again thriving now, thankfully!)
Photobucket

And lastly we took several shots on Father's Day of Shane and the girls. Most of them were cute and funny poses, but this one is one of my faves.
Photobucket

Thanks for looking at "us" hehe. My old Canon seems to be doing well with taking photos so I hope to be able to post lots more pics over the summer.
