No Poo Challenge – Ready, Set, GO!

I first heard about the No Poo shampoo method from my friend Susan's blog post. After a year or so of hearing about this wonderful all natural way to clean your hair, aka "No Poo", I have decided to take the first step and try it! Really I should have started long ago, but I was happy with my shampoos and I was getting them free or next to nothing using coupons. Plus my scalp is extremely sensitive and dry while my hair gets greasy super fast and is fairly straight. So I kept putting it off, making excuses, and life got in the way.

Recently I was reading a few blogs like this one, talking to a knowledgeable friend and found out about all those dangerous and toxic chemicals that are in our hair and skin care products. Wow, my kids are using these too and they are TOXIC!!

There is a No Poo Challenge going on over at Feelin' Feminine, so what better time to try it out and I'm going "No Poo" starting this week!!

Here is how I made my No Poo solutions.

Ingredients:
Baking Soda
Water
Apple Cider Vinegar
Essential Oil (I am using Lavendar and plan to use Tangerine next time)

For the No Poo, I mix 1 part baking soda to 1 part water in an applicator bottle with a few drops of essential oil. I had bought some of these bottles for dying wool yarn and had a couple extra I hadn't used yet. Just give it a good shake before using.

For the conditioner, I added 1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts water and a drop or 2 of the oil.

So now I will be using this each day. I will post again in a week to let you know how it's working for my hair. I am also going to be using the Oil Cleansing Method for my face soon and will post more on that later.

I think it’s about time for an update!

I think it's about time for an update! I am sitting here waiting on my diapers to finish in the wash. The girls are watching Barney. What is up with Barney? My girls are completely mesmerized! I remember when I used to make fun of him and called him names LOL of course that was before I had kids.

Irelynn is doing great! She had her 1wk appt Monday before last and Dr. said she was perfect and doing very well. She had lost 9 oz in the hospital but she had gained 10oz and 1/4in in length. She is a strong nurser too and is filling out her newborn size clothes quite well.

Mommy isn't doing as well. Last week we got a call from the Dr. that Irelynn's PKU test results were positive for Cystic Fibrosis. We have an appt. on Monday in Charleston for a sweat test to see if she indeed has it. I started crying when I got off the phone with the nurse and didn't stop until late the next day. This is not good news at all, much less to a mommy who is already struggling with post-partum depression. I am asking everyone and anyone who prays to please do so.

I just want to take a sec to thank all of my wonderful friends irl and online for praying with us and leaving us comforting comments on facebook and myspace! Thank you and I love all of you!!

So to try to cheer up and keep my mind off of this, I went out and bought some new wool yarn and fleece to make some soakers and longies for Irelynn. I had bought some chinese prefolds for her to use until she fits in her Drybees and right now we are using pre-wrap covers....I don't like them much and would rather have a soft wool or fleece soaker. I figured since I can sew somewhat and can crochet rather well, it makes more sense to make them myself. I have already started crocheting a soaker, I think it will be really nice not to mention cute!

I am also trying to be more active on other boards besides scrapbooking. I don't have the mojo this week to design so I will try to pick that back up after Christmas. BeckleyMommies and DiaperSwappers are my favorites. Everyone is awesome and I have enjoyed making some new online friends.

Well I just wanted to post an update. I apologize for a pictureless post, I have to work on getting some new pics off of my camera this evening. Christmas photos of the girls are there waiting to be made into Chrismtas cards!

Soooo sick…AGAIN!

I have been so sick!! Another wonderful sinus infection has invaded my already tired and worn out body. Wed morning I woke up knowing it was coming and sure enough by the end of the day I knew to get started on an antibiotic. Last Sept I let it go for a week without the antibiotic and it was a huge mistake, as it turned into pneumonia. I have less than 14 days til I have this baby and I can not risk still having a cough and a c-section - they DO NOT MIX!

I stayed in bed all day yesterday and plan to do much of nothing today. Thankfully hubby and Emira have been a huge help! Hubby is cooking and loading dishes in the eve when he gets home..even going into work early so he can come home early. Emira is taking good care of Ainsley and helping her with what she needs. Even Ainsley is helping out by bringing me things I need, she is so sweet and seems to understand that I am sick.

I am feeling somewhat better today but am sad that we had to miss co-op yesterday and really great field trip today. There is just no way I have the strength to get out and about yet. I certainly don't trust myself to drive. But I must be better before Sunday, we have church andafterwards is my diaper shower ; I have to be there obviously.
